 Pepino
This
exotic fruit originated from NW South America. The flesh is yellowish
white, juicy and sweet. It seldom contains seeds. The taste is faintly
reminiscent of pear, peach ,cantaloupe, and a honeydew melon. You can
identify a pepino by its smooth round or oval shape and its colorful
skin, which is light yellow with purple lines throughout.
Because pepino flesh is sweet and tasty, it provides a welcome addition
to many desserts, side dishes, and health-conscious meals. Additionally,
it is an interesting addition to many party fruit platters because of
its unique, dual color skin and its juicy, flavorful, and brightly colored
inner flesh
Use: Eat fresh with or without skin. Use in appetizers or desserts much
the same way as melon.
Available:September
to January(depending on frost)
